Tradition

I have a big question for everyone in here. Why is it so important to maintain our tradition, values, and belief?

well... what kind of world would be living in if there weren't values, and beliefs? it looks pretty bleak to me if we didn't uphold our values and maintain our fidelity...

but why maintaining the old tradition? I mean...I could still go on and live my normal life without any traditional value. So you why is it so important for us to keep practicing it?

If you're saying keeping the old tradition is to maintain our culture, then why is traditional culture so important? Why could still live without culture and tradition stuff, aren't we?

I think it's important to keep the traditions because that's what makes each and everyone one of us an intellectual... It's also a way of history! Traditions is what shapes us into who we are.

Without traditions, don't you think the world would be so bland? I mean, that's where holidays and all those fun occasions come from, right?

I don't think it's really a way to maintain, but we follow our traditions, values, and beliefs because it's what we believe is right. We trust it... and it has always been done...

I'm Hmong and we have many ways of tradition... For example, respect is a HUGE tradition in our culture and it has always been followed since the beginning of time.

I don't think I'd even be known as Hmong anymore if I lose my tradition, values, and belief... Being born in the U.S. and living here throughout life, people lose their traditions and ways because they must adapt to the western ways... even some Hmong children can't speak Hmong anymore...

heh, I wish I knew how to end this because it doesn't sound complete to me... I'll come back when I can satisfy my thinking and writing!

well, tradition can be tied in with history... why do we study history? so we don't make the same mistakes as in the past correct? well tradition is the same, with tradition we learn about ourselves, it gives people something to build upon... its like thanksgiving... whats so important about thanksgiving? its a rememberence of how this country was established, its simple beginings, and the struggle those pilgrams faced to make it through the tough winters... it makes us think back on how fortunant some of us are to have what we have, and to know winters aren't a battle of life and death that it used to be... tradition reminds us of our roots and why we wouldn't be here if that didn't happen...

as for culture, it defines who and what we are... the simple fact today is that everyone is different, and culture helps us to realize the differences and why each of us demands a humane respect... think of it this way... lets say your eating a hard boiled egg... its bland and not that great... well you sprinkle a little salt on it and it tastes so much better... culture is the salt to this world... it gives flavor and diversity... with diversity comes all sorts of experiences... experiences are shared and helps us as human beings better ourselves through other's knowledge and wisdom... i mean think of how far we would get if everyone went through life like robots all with no background... culture is often what spurs people to better themselves...

traditions define a culture. if u take away traditions, all cultures wud be alike bcuz there wud be nuthin to distinguish them from other groups of pplz. they wud eat and wear the same thing and live the same lives.
now if u were to take culture from, say, one individual, that person wud lose part of himself. u wudn't realli hav a nationality, u wudn't noe the language or lifestyle of ur ancestors, and u wud be sum1 hu onli adapts to the changing lifestyle of the present. sure, u can live like that, but ur traditions and culture define hu u r. they're like roots. w/out them, ur more likely to wander around. pplz alwaize get connected w their roots by visiting the homeland of their ancestors, practicing ancient rituals, and other things.
sorri i kinda rambled and i dunno if this makes sense nemore, but i'll giv u anothr example: many countries are becomin industrialized and don't practice old routines nemore. taiwan is such an example. hardly neone wears traditional dress and they probably onli noe about their culture thru a history class, if they take it. pplz hu dun experience nethin w their culture and traditions juss bcum uniform. as a result, most of the youth of taiwan is very modern, which is good, but they noe very little of their roots.

tradition isn't important at all, it's why we aren't so progressed as a culture because of our stubbornness.
