h.o.t reunited again!~
H.O.T, who disbanded in the year 2001, has reunited.
SM Entertainment (President Kim Kyung Ook) decided that bring back H.O.T may be a good way to reignite the fire and popularity of Korean music in China, which has been decreasing, and got each member to agree for this reunification, which they released news of the 25th of this month.
The group, H.O.T, debuted in 1996 when such idol groups like SeoTaiji and Boys and IDOL had disbanded. They were also the first group in February of the year 2000 to hold a performance in Beijing, and thus, they are known as one of the groups that began and created the phrase "Han Ryu", which describes the popularity of Korean music in China and Taiwan.
Though during their performance, they received the loving cries of newly-made fans, the Chinese media gave them a negative remark, stating that "they [were] a bad influence on our youth." [sig.]
Also, due to the SARS issue this year, the Han Ryu flame had settled down a little bit, due to the impossibility for Korean singers to visit the country.
In the midst of this, when SMTown singers including Kangta, Moon HeeJun, Dana, Fly to the Sky, BoA, and others returned to performing in Beijing thanks to the invitations by the Ministry of Culture and CCTV, recently the Chinese Planning and Management Office of Exhibition/Performances has been visiting Korea with seeing the possibilities for another popularity boom.
Seeing how with the Chinese media wanting desperately for H.O.T's reunification and with each members approval already intact, it seems that their performances in China are to be a sure thing.
There also seems to be no problem in regard to their contracts. JTL's contract with their current entertainment company is to end at the end of this year, and KangTa and Moon Hee Jun are already within SM Entertainment.
Also, the old members, who were awkward towards one another after they disbanded, have been having friendly correspondences with one another recently, and it seems likely like their old friendship will once again be restored.
There is much interest arising also from the fact that this past 24th, Moon HeeJun and JTL, who had not appeared on the same stage since they disbanded, both appeared on SBS's Inki Gayo (which is also consequently hosted by KangTa). When introducing JTL's stage, KangTa announced that "this is the stage I've waited for," and when Moon HeeJun, who was the ending performance, also announced that "this is also another stage I've waited for," while waving his hand at Moon HeeJun. Also, when JTL had come on stage, Moon HeeJun was noted to have rushed out from the dressing rooms to cheer on his friends. Many noted that this day's appearances showed a similar reaction from the fans that were noted when they disbanded back in February of 2001, where after the joy of seeing their old favorite band back, many fans screamed their heads off, shed tears, and even got rushed to the hospital, creating a chaotic scene.
After having shown no interest in the others since they disbanded, beginning last July, Moon HeeJun had been visiting the JTL members frequently at their studio, and in early August, expressed that he "approved of the reunification of H.O.T at any moment."
