I heard that at the wheels, your car has roughtly 25% less horsepower than at the crank. is this true? is it really THAT much power lost?

its more likely about 20% max

what would make that less?

all I can think of is lighter driveshaft.

it might actually be more than 25%


but think about how much your motor loses just because of the weight of your pistons/rods etc?

There is no one general percentage, every car loses different amounts. Some more than others.
