it's a protest day to help end the "silencing of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender people and their allies." In order to make a statement, people who participate do not talk all day (or school day...or i'm not sure the qualifications) in order to represent the silencing of the people and such.

How many other schools did this happen at?

Did you participate? or know people who did?

What do you think about it?

something kind of asinine happened at our school, i'll write about it later, i don't feel liek it right now.

75 sophomores in my grade did out of about 140ish sophor less

most of them said something

my bio teacher said to those in his class

I remember in high school when that day came along. People would wear "pink triangles" to support it, and not speak either. Others taped signs that read, "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." I never took part in any of the two sides,...only because people believe what they want to...can't change that.

I just never understood why they had to dedicate a day to support it. That's always an issue. *I guess it makes sense, since they have MLK Jr. Day. ...-

in nyack high school i would say about 40 people at the most...i totally support the gay straight alliance but it seems like people in my school do it for attention also...these are the same people that did the sit out for the war AFTER it started, i mean give me a break

there were quite a few people who participated in this at my school...two i knew of personally. i didn't know about this until lunchtime, so it was kinda too late for me to join. some kids in my forensics class did it just so they wouldn't hav to speak for that day, but i think the majority of the kids who participated were in earnest. at least, i hope so

to tell you the truth i think that day is bullshit. coming to school and interfering with classes and not participating is only hurting those who actually came to school to learn. we had a war protest and there were maybe 30-40 kids who actually cared about the cause but then another 60 who didnt wanna go to class. i think that if students want to support a cause or protest something they should do it on their own time. im not saying that the causes arent important but im wondering why they had to choose being silent on a school day as a form of support.
