let me televise my situation,

A girl has a boyfriend for a few years, she doesn't go to prom her junior year, because her bf didn't want to, then, she breaks up with her boyfriend and is often hanging out with an acquaintance of yours, you sometimes hang out with the two of them, and at one time, the acquaintance asked a friend of yours your relationship status and of the friends.
adding to this, the acquaintance tells you to not mention this girls former relationship. Anyways, the 4 people, you, the girl, the acquaintance, and my friend hang out a few times, and talk a bit. Later, the acquaintance tells you to ask the girl out to prom, and upon hearing this, you're hesitant, and not really sure why he's telling YOU to ask her out (he also says that she wanted to ask you out, but is too shy to..), but after a while, you do anyway, because the girl's pretty cute. After this, the girl opens up much more to you, and you often talk to her, she tells you "you're a really nice guy," and wants to hang out aside from prom. She says she's "excited" that you'll be doing stuff, and she's interested about you.

Does this girl like you (me)?
Or is she just a really nice person...

the thing that confuses me is that since good friends with my acquaintance, the probably talk a lot, and I'm not sure if her interest/ telling me I'm a "nice guy" stems from hearing about me...

On another note, people think this girl and the acquaintance are an item, because they hang out so much, but while she's never talked about him as if they were an item, she did mention that him, and one other guy are her good friends. I think she's just friends with them, plust I have SERIOUS reason to believe that my acquaintance isn't interested in her at all...

I know this is confusing, but all you other hopeless romantics, or just romantics for that matter, please help me...

With the current information it seems to me that she likes you alot as a friend. Hell, if I was going to prom with a good friend I'd be excited too. But then again, she could like you like you. hmm...it seems like more of a friend thing to me. But who knows? it could turn into more.
