i got started on cigs 4 yrs ago. went on and off with it so ive been like smookin fer like 2 yrs. I've tried to quit countless tyms nothing works.... but after my grandpa got diagnosed with lung cancer and he's pretty much suffering like hell right now. i know i need to quit..my mom hates to see her father suffering so i know it woudl break her heart to know i do it as well..so i gotta stop...anyone have any tips to help me quit..?

this will be very blunt and cruel buh you just need it...

you're not cool.

so I'll help you...

First, you have to understand and acknowledge that knowing you HAVE to quit is half the battle.

Second, write reasons as to why you should quit. For example, because of your gf, family, and especially your HEALTH... and also, because it still doesn't make you cool. (I hate people who do bad things and brag about it as if they're so cool because they do it).

Third, be sure you don't expose yourself to cigarettes or the smell of it. (I don't see how anyone can bare the smell anyways. I choke when I smell it). Tell your friends that if they're gonna smoke, do it away from you or don't do it at all.

Fourth, know that you're not cool until you quit.

But seriously, follow the first three tips and remember, knowing you HAVE to quit is half the battle.

btw, your post in the weed thread is pretty pathetic... you post this thread talking about trying to quit smoking but you post in the weeds thread saying how many times you do it?... ......

well my dad was like a heavy smoker .. so weird. my mom was like .. can you stop smoking? and he's ok. and quit ever since ...

for some people its more than just " trying to be cool " ... it's a serious addiction ..

you can try easy at first ... like going cold turkey doesn't really help ..
so try to limit the times you smoke a week or a day ..

say you smoke like 10 times a day ... just give yourself a limit .. of like 5 cigs a day .. and gradually decrease your intake ..

im not sure about the patch .. if those stuff really work .. you can try some techiques like carrying chewing gum to stop the excessive need of wanting to put a cig in your mouth ..

if not that .. ask your frens ( whom im sure do smoke ) to help you .. tell them you want to quit .. so instead of smoking when they're around you ... ask them not to .. so that you wont feel tempted

if if you feel it is just too difficult for you .. im pretty sure that there are places and sources online where you can seek professional help ..

quit cold turkey....it worked for me....
but u gotta want it bad enuff....

and yeah...tell ur friends not to smoke in front of you...
second hand smoke is even worse!

i don't like this whole bashing on smoking thing. That doens't mean the krnjjangoo777 isn't "cool." I don't think being called that is a motivator to quit either. The very idea of cool is irrelevant and i think you just mauled him/her over for no reason. They just want advice on how to quit, of course they want to quit and hence half the battle is over...are you disregarding that they said that julie? lay off, seriously. It's not easy, and since i don't know because i've never been in the situation i'm not going to assume it's easy. And, the weed thread being pathetic because he/she answered? please, that's absurd.

But, sorry i don't have any advice to quit cause i've never been addicted. Anything i'll say will be a repeat to what you've probably all ready heard or tried.

-edit- oops, sorry didn't realize they all ready answered....heh.

oh and btw.

i get really annoyed when people find out i smoke and all of a sudden their perception of me changed within that microsecond after i admit to smoking. it's like i've gone from anakin to darth vadar. im not evil. i just have a bad habit.
