i don't think games really are focused a lot more on graphics now than gameplay, many games released nowadays have groundbreaking and innovative gameplay that hasn't ever been seen in any other games.
Those games that you listed also had some of the best graphics of their times. Chrono Trigger was the best game ever made for SNES in my opinion, it had excellent graphics, a compelling storyline, cool music, gameplay that was innovative for an RPG, yet nothing that was too different from other RPG's. It was a solid game, the best I ever played on that system.
There are tons of games today in which the develepors focused on gameplay and not just graphics. Take metal gear solid 2 for instance, when it was being developed hideo kojima + co. didn't know how the graphics would compare to other PS2 games, but that didn't really bother them and the continued to focus on making and in-depth, excellent game, and it turned out that MGS2 had some of the best graphics on the ps2, well maybe not the best but pretty up there heh.
I think your statement is flawed, and I think your just nostalgiac for games gone by haha, but I loved most of those games too, and I can understand why you say this, but you need to get out and play some games.
