ahh....the opposite sex, when the hell are we gonna figure them out eh? It would be nice staying just as "exclusive friends" wouldn't it? You'd be really close to that other person, and at the same time you wouldn't be as commited or obligated to them compared to if you were in a relationship. But hey, on the other hand, we have people that love that feeling of commitment and such, and there's no problem with that. Just make sure that your priorities are straight and that you know where you are and where you're going with the "relationship."

this is silly. everyone is talking about being friends with someone and there suddenly being no strings attached because it is not explicit. Whether you can see strings or not, they are existent in whatever form, no matter how miniscule. Even simply friends have strings with them. If you are having a friend just for these benefits i think you are being selfish and in ways a coward. It will not be as idealistic as everyone is putting it, no strings attached?...i think they will be there. And, if your break them when they are there implictly only as all of you are saying, there will be nothing you can do because there are no strings so to speak and it will hurt even more because there was nothing really connecting you to the other person. i am not sure what you would have if one were to have what all of you are describing. It just sounds like love without a label, and if it is really just friends being close i do not know what is stopping it from stepping over the boundary...everything else all ready is. I used to have a friend like that. And, it did not stay that way. I am not sure how it could have possibly stayed like that in hindsight. it is foolish to pretend like the strings are not there.

Sure, there is no "obligation" or "commitment" in these relationships of friends, but then again...isn't there? do you not expect the other or want the other to not find another? would you care if they found a love? i do not see the advantage. it all just sounds like everyone wants to run from commitment and avoid being hurt later on. Everyone who wants a friend over a significant other is just stepping into a position where you could be easily trampled on with no way out. If there are no strings...what can you really do about it if it falls through? as in if the other finds someone they love, your relationship will not be the same anymore, not as close as it used to be. especilaly if these benefits means intimacy.
