if you do not wish to remember certain things, then you are dwelling and thinking more about them anyway, so you'll recollect them simply because you are actually remembering them in order to "forget" them. In the end, all you end up doing is remembering to forget a particular event that you recollect very vividly simply because you never want to experience it again.

Forgetting is the evading of one's memory, hence you can never force yourself to forget anything. If you use your brain power to forget something, you'll remember it even more clearly because you are trying to do the impossible. Ah, i've restated myself a couple of times, sorry haha. Anyway, Trying to forget is contradictory to forgetting, you can't think at all about it if you wish not to remember it.

I'm also convinced that human curiosity plays a role here. People are curious as to what they have forgotten and begin to try and remember it, therefore, creating the memory over again. That cycle goes on.

Also, is the fact that we learn from our mistakes...if the memory you don't wish to remember is a mistake you will remember it simply because you unconciously want to learn from the mistake you did. And even if you say you don't want to remember it, you do in order to never repeat it again.

A final thought is that a thought can be so unforgetful that it is very hard to forget. That can make it hard to forget, and thus when you are trying to forget it, you think about it even more simply because it is so unforgettable.
