i considered 3 possibilities:
1) guy is just awesome at this game
2) used a computer program to play the game for him
3) he cheated using game genie, an emulator or savestates
3 was correct. sometimes, if you look at the counter, it'll actually go up rather than down. also, a few bullets hit him and he doesn't die. when facing bowser, he jumped on his head. the only way to beat bowser was to make him fall through the floor. finally, at the end of the video, there's a website. the translation says he used an emulator, lowerd the fps, and used save states.
damn, i wished it was real
