well there are a lot of books based on books.. adaptation of books..

for example
minority report was based on some book
shawshank redemption was based on a stephen king novel
black hawk down was a book based on true events
forrest gump .. my favorite.. book by winston groom

and then there are all those movies based on comic book characters .. comic books aer essentially books.. with pictures. d=D

for example
the obvious ones like x-men , spiderman , superman, batman

then the not so obvious
men in black, blade,

if i ever have a chance to.. i will do old school cartoons.. like g.i.joe .. or thundercats.. and make it live action .. or manga.. like ninja scroll.. i better have a good screenwriter..

IT wuz a movie? gotta see...i heard the shining wuz freakin scary...gone with the wind wuz good, but they cut out a lot of stuff (well, they had to)...island of the blue dolphins...anne of green gables...i know what u did last summer
