PSX slightly modified version of PS2...can read DVD-R's...built in hard drive etc.

PS3: New blueray technology. 256 bits? not sure how many, but way more then PS2. PS3 way better then PSX if it exists

also.
PS3 comes with something called "cell" technology

A prefered instance for deploying Cell processors is 4 data * 8 APU * 4 PE. As a result, 512 32bit floating point arithmetic and 512 32bit integer arithmetic per clock are processed simultaneously. In short word the number of clock on CELL is 1 Tera FLOPS.

Specification is following;
-32 sub processors on one chip
-256 processing units
-max 1024 32bit data calculation
-1 Tera FLOPS power
-the number of transistors is over 1B
-outer memory is "Yellowstone" DRAM by Rambus
-chip-interconnect technology will be "Redwood" by Rambus
-"Emotion Engine", the core chipset of PS2, is integrated in one chip with "Graphics Synthesizer".

The heart of the Playstation3 will be a new chip (or rather chip set) developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM. The companies will collectively invest more than $400 million in the next five years to design a "supercomputer-on-a-chip" for the PS3. The name for this technology is "grid" (formerly called "cell") and appears to be targeted squarely at the possibilities of parallel and distributed computing over the internet. Grid computing is a variation of distributed computing, and presumably involves networked game machines sharing software, processing power and data. Okamoto also said that networking applications including downloadable software would be integral to Sony's Playstation3 console. A recent report (May 5 2002) from the Japanese News Agency Kyodo said that the Playstation 3 would work over superfast fiber optics connections and would be Sony's first console to run games without a digital video disc. Sony also is considering offering the new chip to other companies for use in televisions and electronics equipment, Kyodo said.

Excerpt from an IBM press release:

Code-named "Cell," the new microchips will employ the world's most advanced research technologies and chip-making techniques, including copper wires, silicon-on-insulator (SOI) transistors and low-K dielectric insulation, with features smaller than 0.10 microns -- 1,000 times thinner than a human hair. The result will be consumer devices that are more powerful than IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer, operate at low power and access the broadband Internet at ultra high speeds. Cell will be designed to deliver "teraflops" of processing power.

LOL seriously

NEW PSP:

Release date: sometime in 2004

PSP - Playstation Portable (Sony's answer to the GBA)

Pricing is targeted to be the same as GBA SP ($99)

32-Bit system, completely brand new processor, UMD - Universal Media Discs(game discs, holds 1.8 gbs), three dimensional sound, Memory stick support, able to play music, 2 hours of high quality DVD movies (stored onto the UMD discs), no official pictures just yet.

Dont be fooled, just because this is 32-bit and GBA is 32-bit, im pretty positive that the graphics on GBA cant even compare to the PSP.

coming soon- PSP and PSX

credz to Newtype USA (aug. issue)

PSP- Playstation pocket, the antidote to GBA, will come out in america 3 weeks b4 PSX. it has a 4.5 inch, 19x9 sceen, positional audio, and full 3-d support. The PSP could match the power of the original playstaion.

PSX- it will come out 3 weeks after PSP, this is like a media upgrade of PS2. 120 gigabyte hard drive, dvd burner, and tv tuner. other upgrades such as stick support, sleek slot loading disc system, broudband connectivity to allow users to download media and play on-line

both will come out in 2004 in america but questions being asked are "why release PSX when PS3 will come shortly after?"
