WIAA semi-finals: Holmen doesn't make it for "cheating"
Blah... I'm outraged about this issue, yet, I'm glad that this happened. The Holmen football team made it into the semi-finals this year, after ten years of not making it into the WIAA finals, and certain issues came up that caused Holmen to not make states. About two months ago, two players of the Holmen football team went out, drank some alcohol, and got caught. They sat out for one football game, because that was the punishment if anyone got caught (according to the school rules). But, in the WIAA play-off, the rules say that if any player gets caught for tobacco or alcohol abuse, they have to sit out through the whole play-offs. Well, the two guys played in the play-offs, and later, Holmen called into WIAA and said that they had had the two guys play. The high school had an hour and thirty minute appeal about the whole issue, and Holmen is now, not going to play in the semi-finals.
ALL the football players are blaming the activities code director for not knowing such issues and not basing their facts on why all this happened in the first place. All the blame is face towards the activities code director, and I don't see why they're blaming her when she called in. Isn't it the two guys fault for drinking in the first place? All this wouldn't have occured if they didn't go out and drink. So many rumors are floating around our school now...
So who's to blame? The coach? The activities code director? The two players? The whole team? And WHY did the whole team have to suffer?
What would you have done?
