i still think war is the human version of survival of the fittest. As long as societal morals and ethics/laws prevent us from pursuing survival of the fittest, we have a political survival. And this political competition IS the survival of the fittest of humans, since we as a world community, (with the exception of some african places like Mauritania, and such i guess which thrive on anarchy) prevent it from occuring. Our survival is based politically and is consolidated into blocs. Societies fight to survive, not humans.
In this sense, our "best" aren't sent in the front lines at all. The skillful "hands" of our nations are sent to the front line, while the "brains" (what i consider to be the best) stays behind supplying the hands with technology and strategies to pursue this survival contests. Strategy and Knowledge have become what determines who survives in the world in this human competition. In the wild, it is who is strongest. In humanity, it is who is smartest and most able. Knowledge is at a higher level than the "hands" are of the jungle for this very reason. We have a different form of combat. Therefore, the best are not sent to the front lines at all, they are left behind. Humanity is very different from the wild, one must be careful when comparing them. If anyone wants me to explain more, just say.
