not surprised at all. even the most hardcore bush advocate must realize the terrible implications of such a course.

well, theres like .. to many .. and to just take one from all these people .. it wouldnt really be fair .. to just go to one .. so yah .. i can see where hes comin from .. i think he could hold his own ceremony thing where he makes a speech to all of the people who died there and so on .. i dunno, maybe he is or did .. i dunno but thatd be better i guess since .. hes a busy guy

then instead of picking and choosing, yea he should have a big ceremony for them all, cuz i guess going to one would be showing that u care, but maybe the other would think it was unfair or something

as quoted from the article:
quote:
"This country has a lot of history where commanders visit wounded soldiers and commanders talked to families of deceased soldiers and commanders attend funerals. It's just one of these understood traditions," says Seth Pollack, an 8-year veteran who served in the First Armored Division in both the first Gulf War and the Bosnia operation. "At the company level, the division level ... the general tradition is to honor the soldier, and the way you honor these soldiers is to have high-ranking officials attend the funeral. For the President not to have attended any is simply disrespectful."

and even putting traditions aside, it would be a bit insensitive to have no regards for the people who are fighting the war on his behalf, no?

i'm not implying that bush should not attend soldiers' funerals, I'm saying that all he has to do is simply attend a single or couple funerals just as a fake show of respect. basically, I'm condemning the quota, not the attendance of funerals by generals and presidents
