"You know you're right" was in the works for a long time. There was a long series of court battles between Courtney Love and Dave Grohl/Kurt Novelselic for control of the master recordings. In the end, Love lost, and the song was able to be released on the new Nirvana compilation that's coming out. Why did Love try to keep the song from being publicized? There have been many theories..... but for me, the primary reasons are:
1) The song's lyrics are embarrassing for her.
2) Love more or less copied the song on Hole's Unplugged (i.e. the lyrics are the same, except for something in the Hole version about walking through piss ).
Nirvana recorded and mixed the single in one recording session, the final one before Cobain's death (three weeks later).
As I said before, it's a great song
Simple but nice.
