IE help

hey i have this problem with my win2k machine. everytime i turn on my internet explorer it asks me to connect or retry my internet connection. but i have cable so i'm always on. if i press retry or connect i go online. is there a way to turn off the stupid work offline thing?

im on xp, so these directions arent 100% accurate, but you should get the idea.

start -> settings -> control panel -> internet options -> connections tab -> setup button -> click next -> connect to the internet -> set up my connection manually -> connect using a broadband that is alwats on -> finish
