Digital Music: should it be legal or illegal?

Whats everyone think about the issue that was brought into mainstream with the advent of Napster and other easy to access/use p2p software programs used for trading music? Should copyrighted music by the artists be allowed to circulate through the internet legally? Do we have creative freedom, or is the owner of the artists and the record company? The Digital Millenium Copyright Act (i believe thats what it is, or is it Digital Music Copyright Act?) was passed recently, but i forgot what it was about particularly, besides the obvious. So what's everyones view on this?

This question pertains to copyrighted music of course, not COMPLETELY home-made music (ommiting remixes and such)

I'm not sure about this. I think musicians/artists should be out there to make music, not to make money. Of course, they'll need some money to support themselves and or their family but in the end, the most important thing should be their music. I guess it should be legal, but people need to buy cd's if they really like the music. Hmm, I think they're starting to make cd's that aren't burnable or rippable o.0 so that people won't have mp3's of the tracks in the cd, and therefore there would be a decrease in digital music? o.0 Aish, I have no idea haha q:

it's never ours to give to everyone. You have to buy the CD which has the Music on it, so it's never ours to give away. Digital copyrighted music distribution without consent or buying has never been ethical or legal (on an implied standpoint), and i really don't see how everyone says it is. They make music for money, and just because they make a lot doesn't mean we can just take it away from them. We don't have musical freedom over it, cause it's their copyright, and it really is stealing. A form of piracy that is allowed to slip through laws so far. It's hard to stop, but advocating the distribution of it i think has no real ground or basis, except "i can do whatever i want with the music" or whatever. A lot of times they don't even buy the music before distributing. Others dl them off of others and the chain begins of piracy. It's sweet that we can just get free music, and it's really impossible to ever control it i think, but i know it's wrong stealing hehe.

It's an interesting predicament.

no, i don't think it should be allowed because the artists would have worked hard to sing, produce, etc their albums, and it would be really cheap for someone to just take them and spread it around. they shouldn't have the right to.
