O.c.d
I'm just curious
Does anyone here have obsessive compulsive-like symptoms?
I have a few:
-washing hands too often. It can get really bad. I've made my hands bleed a few times.
-when I put cds away, they must always be right-side up. If I ever put them away differently, I feel compelled moments later to take the cd out again and readjust it.
-everything has to be organized a certain way. ex:when I do the dishes, everything must be organized a certain way. When other people do the dishes and it's not the same way that I do them, it really irritates me(and I don't know why) Or at the grocery store, I always want to bag the groceries so that I have control of what goes where.
nothing else really comes to mind right now...washing hands is the main one, though. I'm really really bad with that.

yeah. I don't use a loofah or anything. I just wash my hands way too often. I know when I'm washing them excessively, but I can't bring myself to stop. I've done some pretty stupid things and continue to do them.
I wash my hands after washing the dishes, I wash my hands after tying my shoes, I wash my hands after getting out of the shower, etc
I feel like a real idiot when I think about it, but I always feel really uncomfortable when I don't wash my hands
I had to get a special lotion for it in fifth grade, to basically save my hands from complete destruction. It HURT!
On a discovery channel/TLC special on O.C.Ds, it said that people who have had strep throat are more likely to develop these disorders(mainly the washing hands one). I've had strep about three times when I was younger...but I don't know if it has anything to do with my O.C.D right now...it's been so long!

OCD just sucks period.
It's caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. I think it's spelled serotonin. It causes messages that are sent from one part of the brain to another to get disrupted (which is why we feel uncertain or anxious).
Also you get a buildup of adrenaline, performing rituals (checking/washing etc.) is an action, just like walking or running that use up adrenaline.
Anxiety is caused by the built up adreanaline.
I learned this from my therapist.
You should see a therapist and a psychologist who specializes in OCD.
By the way, I never heard anything about the strep throat thingy.
Also I've never really had strep throat, but washing my hands used to be a problem for me when I was younger. Basically for me it changed into scrupulosity about religion (which is like 50 times scarier).
i tend to wipe of the surface of things and dont stop unless even a speck of dust is gone..sometimes im not aware that i do it..like in the school cafeteria or a restaurant, i start wiping the area of the table im eating on and ppl start to stare at me weird

OCD's can be pretti severe. i saw this vid in health once about a guy who couldn't come out of the bathroom in his parents' house and he has been living there for several years. he's spend hours and hours and hours in the showers trying to get clean so he could come out but he never could.

I tend to be very picky about how room is set...maybe I'm just a neat freak...but I can tell if people move my stuff even just a bit and it drives me nutz! I have to put things back to it's 'right' place.
