phobes

Is it just me, or is there a lot of homophobes in the forums?
I was looking around a little bit and...it seems like the best response a lot of people can think up to say about anything is: "that's gay."
And, sometimes it's the junsunlee moddies saying things like that.
...aish, why~?

hmmm ... i guess cuz it's like an instantaneous response maybe??

alot of people use it in their everyday vocab .. ( i admit i use it too ) ><

so it's kinda natural to type it out as well ... i dont think it's intended to offend anyone though ..

since i registered in nov. i've been called gay acouple of times

-_- hmph!

if someone says "thats gay", that doesnt make them a homophobe. over time i guess it gradually took on a meaning similar to saying "thats wack" or "thats stupid." just like gay used to mean happy, but then it was used to talk about homosexuals. just the way slang works.

saying "thats gay" is something used everyday now, it idn't homophobic stuff, it's just an expression and has a different meaning now like seung ju said, it stands for "that stupid or like "Thats dumb" it also means homosexual yes but it's usually ment in a different way when u say "Thats gay".. i sonno maybe that Face the Fact guy can help out

a lot of people use homophobic language in this forum, but I wouldn't go as far to say that they all are actually homophobic (yes, I'm sure you could say language creates a reality, and our language determines our perceptions and dispositions, but I would still hope that they aren't homophobic) It's not uncommon for people to have been chided for such language here, but eh, it doesn't always happen. Btw, are you a hyde fan or do you like physics a lot?

yeah, a lot of people use that language. It doesn't mean they are homophobic, but i know of some here that really come off as such with their comments about it in the past. But, discourse doesn't necessarily constitute idealisms. It is really offensive, but people do it all the time and i tell them, and others do, not to say it all the time but people don't care hehe.

you're a liar. Of course it's homophobic. Even if it's not on face, it is in effect of using that language. Language constructs reality wah ha, as TM11 said in one case, i think that is true effectually for all regardless of mere "intent"

yeah. Saying that something is "gay" bothers me a lot. It kind of implies that everything pertaining to the word is negative. I ask people at school to not say it in front of me and instead find a different word to use, but they get extremely defensive. They say things like, "it wasn't like I was saying it to a gay person or about a gay person" but they really are whether they intend to or not.
Really, they can't say that something isn't offensive when I'm really offended by it, can they?^^ It's almost humorous if you think about how that conversation must flow.

and, thanks Snowman, you're really smart!

oh, yeah. I'm a Hyde fan^_^ (I like physics too, but not as much)

thanks , no problem. I am glad someone else is against offensive language here.
