Disinformation- Everything you know is wrong

well..not quite everything but it's interesting stuff..

heres a sample:

11. The results of the famous domestic violence survey by the Family Research Laboratory in 1985 found that 1.8 million women were the victims of severe domestic abuse each year, which led to the famous statistic: A woman is battered by her partner every 18 seconds. That same survey found what number of men were victims of severe domestic abuse?

A) None
B) A statistically insignificant number
C) 250,000
D) 2 million
As hard as it is to believe, the same survey which gave us the widely-quoted one-woman-every-18-seconds figure found that even more men were being severely abused--one man every 15 seconds. Even the survey that was performed as part of the Violence Against Women Act found that well over a third of domestic violence victims are men. Yet this tragedy is denied to the point that battered men are in the same situation today as battered women in the 1950s. Philip W. Cook explores the disturbing situation in "The Whole Truth About Domestic Violence." [Everything You Know Is Wrong, page 125]

17. Which countries have said that prior to September 11, 2001, their intelligence agencies warned the US of planned attacks on its landmarks, such as the World Trade Center and the Pentagon?

A) Israel
B) Germany
C) Russia
D) Philippines
E) All of the above
All of the above. Further reports show that other warnings came from an Iranian detainee in Germany, an anonymous person in the Cayman Islands, and several people in the US (including--according to Congressman Ike Skelton--CIA Director George Tenet himself.) "September 11, 2001: No Surprise" by Russ Kick presents loads more evidence that the federal government knew what was coming. [Everything You Know Is Wrong, page 241]

22. True or False: Literacy rates in the US are higher than they've ever been.

A) true
B) false
The Connecticut Census of 1840 showed that only one citizen in 529 was illiterate (a 99.8% literacy rate). In 1940, the nation's literacy rate was 96% for whites and 80% for blacks. The National Adult Literacy Survey for 2000 revealed that the literacy rate now stands at 83% for whites and 60% for blacks. As John Taylor Gatto notes: "We spend three to four times as much real money on schooling as we did 60 years ago, but 60 years ago virtually everyone, black or white could read." His article, "Some Lessons From the Underground History of American Education," reveals the destructive consequences of America's compulsory public school system. I took their online quiz, i got like 13 out of 15 or something. Kinda just guessed.

But it's a little disturbing how little we really know about what going on around us. Guess we should stop watchin so much tv and start researching, eh?
