Good Entry for 3D Programmers

Carrera
Carrera has really powerful rendering output features.

trueSpace
This package has been around since the amega days.
It has a really powerful rendering engine but the modeling tools leave somthing to be desired.

Bryce 5
A great package for creating virtual landsapes.

Poser
People to populate your 3d world.
Poser is a great tool for digital and triditional artists alike.
You can use the figures in poser like the little poseable wood dummy to come up with a basis for your character drawings.
