wut do colleges look for?

i'd like to noe wut kind of extra curriculars look good on college apps, as well as clubs...wut wud impress them?

colleges look for GPA, standardized testing, rigor of classes taken, extra curriculars...these vary, most like a variety of activities to show one is "well-rounded", they usually like at least one creative class like music or drama or something. I'm just doing one of each

one of the more important things is dedication and promotion..lets say u are part of student government for one year but then you're on the chess club for at least 3..maybe student govt is the "better" club but the fact that u were on the chess club for 3 years looks better..especially when u started out as a regular member but then got promoted to like, vice president or something...

good clubs:
-sports teams..any kind
-student govt/council/anything to do with student activities
-volunteering* (you could do this outside school too)
-performing arts (singing, dancing, acting, etc)
-school newspaper/magazine, etc
-academic related (math team)
-other : debate team, teacher's assistant, etc

there are MANY MANY more but these are the ones that look good...it depends on ur own interests, how much time ur willing to give and sometimes what college u wanna get into..like if u want to go to a performing arts school, its best if u join the drama club or something...hope that was of some help

oh yes...thnx. that wuz a lot of help so, is persistence better than moving around from club to club? like, staying w one for several years versus joining a bunch of random ones?

yes, especially if you're really good at whatever extra you choose (i.e. forensics, debate, sports). Colleges can usually tell when you try and "stuff your portfolio" with a lot of extras. Try and do athletic, academic, AND creative (singing, music, art), they like well rounded people.

go to their website go to Q+A and there should be one that asks, "What Do You Guys require or look for in an applying student" ? and just meet or exceed these requirements.
