Half Life console help

How do I activate the console in Half-Life?

for counter-strike i go to the counterstrike icon... right click on properties.. and there should be a "c:/games/halflife/cstrike"... at the end of that put "games-console" at the end of that. so it should look like "c:/games/halflife/cstrike games-console" or at least close to it. i dono.

im not sure if that actually works now. but thats how i used to do it. sorry if im wrong technically in any part of my description.. im not a computer dude at all.
