Existence Conundrum
So i met a new person today. Did me meeting them today make them exist? or were they always just existent regardless of the fact that i met them today and had no knowledge of their presence? I mean, i knew that they must exist...but i did not knowo that THEY exist exactly. The notion is rather vague and not nearly precise enough to be able to pinpoint the answer to the question (in regards to conscious knowledge of the population solving this conundrum). I know that there are more than 6 billion people in the world, but do i know an individual exists before meeting them? or do they exist only after i meet them?
I would give credit to the author of this conundrum but i do not know how to spell it. Something to the effect of Inganburg's Conundrum. I could have written that better, but i am too lazy to go back and fix it. Anyway, what does everyone think?

In this situation, I would believe that they had existed. It seems futile to have such a concrete answer to an abstract question, but I only believe this because I consider it as when person A sees person B, person B had to have existed a millisecond before person A sees person B because light has to reflect off person B to reach person A. And if Person B existed at that point in time, before she existed in your mind, then what's to say she hasn't been existing for even longer?
This is assuming that the essential question of this situation is "Is existence defined by the existence of something in my own mind?"
Just my 2 cents.

psycho, u dont exist to me. at all. u are words on a screen and that is it. u could be a machine organizing different words of the english language together in some dark basement.
To you the idea may be insane. Of course im real, of course im a thinking, human being with a living past. But I do not know that, just as you do not know if im real or not.
I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU EXIST PSYCHOSNOWMAN
So if I do NOT know of your human existence, mean that you do not exist as a human?
To me: you dont
To yourself: you do.
it is not because the people dont exist, it because that the people cannot know everything or be sure of each other's existence. We are seperate entities with our own thoughts our own minds and our own feelings.
There is no way to prove the idea wrong, but personally, to have some belief in it would make somebody egocentric. That the universe revovles around him and that he alone has the key to bring objects into existence.
granted, i concur with you huby. It is not an insane idea to me, rather that was what i was going for in my advocacy.
Existence preceeds essence.

There is only what exists, which is, everything that exists, and nothing that doesn't and than there's what exists in our memory. We only ask these questions to test our memory and own knowledge in basic trial and error to help understand "reality". This question and all others are irrelavent in they are only basic survival subconcious-driven instincts to help prolong our lives. Nothing more. What exists to us is only what we hear, see, taste, smell and feel. Emotion then makes clockwork of these observations to help aid our understandment of our environment. If we didn't have any senses, nothing would exist to us. It would still be there, maybe, maybe not. No one can really say what exists since all humans can make sense of only what they are able to physically sense.
