california school budget

i'm sure all you californians hav heard about the deficit and how davis is planning to cut $2 billion something from education. for me, this means my school could lose its career center. that wud be devastating. we NEED the career center b/c it has all the info about colleges, college entrance exams, ROP classes, scholarships, etc, etc. it's quite possibly the most important feature of our school. there's a board meeting for my district 2morro and i'm planning to go with a few people from my forensics class to speak against cutting the career center.
also, this budget could also mean the elimination of all electives for incoming freshmen. that wud mean they wud only hav 5 classes a day for all 4 yrs of high school - math, science, english, p.e., and history. how did we get ourselves into this?

oh im sorry... im not sure about that.. Lily said the mayor gave money to the jail or somethin..

my school district is cutting 20 million dollars off of school... they're cutting off my favorite elective, strings. they will only cut that elective but not band or chorus because they dont think its important.. if not enough people signup we will lose it for sure. we're waiting for the legislature to give us money. they will but things on a list by how important it is. i dont want any cut off. if they cut off a lot we'll probably be the 50th state in Student Spending.... we're already at 48th...

there have been rumors around my district that they might cut the graduation ceremony after this year's senior class graduates.

Illinois's suffering a $5 billion deficit, so people are worried that Blagojevich is going to screw up the state university, known for its engineering and accounting programs

the cream stuff in oreos is disgustingly fattening, so it'll be for the better.

well, last night my school district had a board meeting that was open to the public. two of my classmates from forensics and i went, and we saw a lot of teachers from our middle/elementary schools who were there for their cause. i'm not even sure what that was, because the agenda list was huge and i got really confused throughout the course of the meeting. they went out of order and the speeches were incredibly boring. anyway, we went prepared to give speeches to protect our career center, but when we got there, we found out that the cutting of the career center had already been taken off the chopping block, so we had nothing to worry about. we also went for nothing haha, but i think it was a valuable learning experience. plus, there were free refreshments during intermission ^^
anyway, i'm glad that we're not losing our career center. they talked about a lot of other things too, like transportation, the task force, etc. one good thing was that the school board was considering cutting sports/physical things from middle schools, but a guy donated $8,000 b/c he didn't want to see that happen. that was nice

Yes, Gray Davis, what a governor. Well, he was the better of the two candidates anyhow. The people really need to show stronger civic participation.
