Unreal II :Awakening pics

these screens simply don't do justice, as you heard before..

seeing this game in motion is crazy..bump mapped cube maps u have it. everything is actually rendered, not just textures..
it runs well for the most part too, not horrible A LA tribes 2..

there is also a Ragdoll system, where when enemies fall they fall differently everytime, against a wall, over stairs, etc its a totally random physics engine..

The game is very very very very very slow. If you try to dodge left or right (taping key) instead of the old fashioned unreal dodge u will be treated to a nice side jump which is slow as hell. And while you are performing it you will die because the projectile will probably kill you. The graphics are so so, textures are washed up as hell, lighting is good in some parts, water is plain weird. You cant destroy anything. Shoot a panel, nothing happens. Shoot a window, light bulb, car, ship, Nothing will happen. DITTO!Enemy desing is good in some areas but the boses are the plain old shoot until they die type of thing. Oh btw im not a pc junkie, and andrew can go fuck himself.

graphics are so so? lol..you obviously don't know anything in the tech department. you must have one shitty machine to not see it, because even john carmack would nod at its visual glory.

anyway im not gonna argue any further, before it gets pointless.. im not forcing you to enjoy it either because everyones different.

Im really sure i have the best system on this whole board ;) Amd 2400+ at 2395mhz radeon 9700 pro orc 512 ram 80gb hard drive. Nothing about tech deparment? I know more then you ever will. John Carmack didnt praise this game. Doom 3 will be a hell lot better then this. And if you don't believe me why dont u check the reviews for this game. You can start at www.gamespy.com . Btw i hate gasmespy but they gave a decent review for unreal 2. A 72. Oh and a side note please go to www.unreal2.com and read all the topics about the game not living up to its hype. Have fun.

why will DOom III be better graphics wise? because its programmed in vertex/pixel shaders.


this is done in old polygon calculations..SO guess what..you do the math.



btw, i underestimated your system(my bad) but it surely isn't the best.
you are running on an old thoroughbred revision. your FSB is not at 800 mhz. 80 gigs is not much.

Ok il explain why the game is bad in my point of view. I will use Splinter Cell as the comparison. Lets start of with textures. For some reason unreal 2s textures look a bit washed up. This is runing at 16x fsaa. In some parts the textures are upside down or reversed . Splinter cell on the other hand has high res textures that look crisp and sharp even without aa or fsaa. Now for decals. Unreal 2 has some decals... Shoot a wall with ur pistol, and it wont leave a mark. Shoot a window, nothing will happen. It wont leave a freaking mark!! It wouldn't be hard to make the glasss shater effect 2, just make the window a breakable mover. And add texture say decal1.dtx when shot before breaking. Splinter cell has really nice glass effects. Shooting a window will cause it to leave a mark and eventualy break. The window also contatins reflections which make it look really nice. Unreal 2 contains no reflections in windows and objects as much as Splinter cell. In splinter cell its possible to interact with just about anything. Pick up a can, throw it. Shoot the lamp and the lights will go off. Shoot the camera, a can of soda, a beer bottle, and you will recieve a nice breaking effect. Alas in unreal 2 there is none. Nothing can be broken or affected in any way. And even when you come to the ship during inbeetween mission it looks boring and pointless. You can only open a few locks and thats about it. You can interact with anything!! And some objects allow you to walk through them... Making the ship seem like a dead floating peice of cargo. For gameplay unreal is a so so shooter. Its very linear and you always will follow the same path killing the same enemies. You dont have any special tech. beside dodging left of right. Even that feels very slow and stupid. But ur enemies can perform those movements nicely for some reason, making you feel like a slow peice of metal shit. In splinter cell you have different aproaches to your goal. For example you can throw a can on the floor and make a guard come to you. You can eather stand behind the corner and grab him, jump of the wall twice and stand in mid air with ur legs spread, cap him in the head, stand against the wall and do a corner shot, and many more. These are some of the reasons i believe unreal 2 isnt worth it. Post your ideas.

the AA sampling does not effect the appearance of the textures just masked triangles .. i have splinter cell demo.. i would say the textures are sharp, but as would unreal II. i don't know about you but splinter cell's reflections don't come close. its a driver issue..

i think you are criticizing more towards gameplay, thinking games.


take a look at quake III..most modders had to program in the breakable shaders.. my mod team did (annihilation)

yeah. probably because of the nature of the game so id agree

Well i guess i am a bit too harsh. But gameplay wise, the thing is that unreal 1 allowed you to explore everywhere and be able to interact with things. Unreal 2 does not have any of this. I wanted to be able to explore unreal 2, look through every corner, find secrets. But often i found magical invisible walls blocking my way, and the dead atmoshpere of the game :/ As for secrets, there are none besides 2 stupid ones. Unreal 2 party and a linkin apperance... Thats it
