Religious or Scienitific Explaination?

Do you believe the Religious or Scientific reason for the beginning of this universe? personally I think the Scientific reason (The Big Bang) seems more believable. yeah yeah you can argue about what made the big bang, but, you could also argue about how God came into existance.

I do think science and religion should be kept seperate, but for a lot of our understanding of science to be true, the big bang theory is one of the most viable options to pick. For some, faith is too much of a leap, and it's more sensible that by pure serendipity and a chain of randomly occuring events the big bang occured.

scientific, hmmm i still don't buy the big bang...it just seems so absurd to me. I haven't thought of anything better so i adhere to that though.

haha, i'm sure they won't all have some sort of epiphany and realize the "truth" that god created everyone hahaha . Sorry, i don't mean to make fun of it, but "everybody [doesn't just] knos god created everything." That is extremely closeminded. By your thinking everyone would be christian in today's world had they been exposed to it, and that's far from the case.

Read Inherit the wind, or watch it.

It's based on the John Scopes trial.

As it's message shows that the Bible may not be 100% literal, it may have metaphors. The lawyer who defended the teacher believed that Darwinism (evolution) and Creationism may coexist.

This is similar to the debate here, they don't necessarily have to contradict each other do they?

Seven days? man the asteroids and stuff must have moved pretty fast. I think the Big Bang seems to be the most logical theory, now if God really exists, tell me this, what was there before God? Did God just magically appear and create this universe?

God is said to exist outside of our sense of time... so therefore he always was and always will be. i mean, if its God, why does he have to have a beginning and end just because that's our perception of the way events work?

but back on topic -- i'm with david -- big bang seems too absurd to be true... but i am christian. however - dont know how God created the universe or how long it took... and honestly dont care. so i dont think about it.

and i also agree with alchemist -- only fundamentalists believe that the Bible is 100% literal... most other christians believe that its a mixture of metaphors and truth. so universe created in 7 days?? probably not... the people who wrote the Bible wrote in a way so it could be understood by the people at the time, so it could very well have taken billions of years.

hmmm why cant u say God created the universe wit a Big Bang? put science and religion 2gether? i mean Genesis is vague at points. the days in Genesis rnt like 24 hour days since there is no earth at the time God was creatin everythin. i mean he couldnt really explain to person or people who wrote the Bible that yea i did it in one big bang and such. im not sure wat side 2 take.

i was just going to say that. this prob sound like a bunch of bullshit but...i'm a christian and i'm still learning about the Bible and about God and at the same time, disregarding some scientific theories. it's really hard considering that i chose science over christianity before i decided to live a life as a christian but...it's hard for me chose...i mean, it takes A LOT of convincing to change my mind. so yeah...after reading the posts...i think prob science & christianity 'might' go hand in hand... :sleepy:
