-- koreas ReUnite? (https://www.jusunlee.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=5993)

koreas ReUnite?

my buddies were saying that IF the two koreas reunited, they would get more power than japan.

Do you think that other countries care if we united? or do you guys think that they are trying to seperate us?

i doubt that. For one they don't really give a damn about korea and its role in the international community. But in the case of if the two koreas got reunited, they would be glad to see the most heavily armed border in the world dissapear.

What you people don't understand is that china supports North Korea and the US supports South Korea.

What will china's and US's reaction be if they reunite? Somehow, i think those two countries are keeping us apart. Wish i had some evidence..

You're overlooking the whole internal issue. The main problem is with the two koreas.

China doesn't give a shit about NK. What does NK provide for them? A shitty economy.
Ally by default? take a look at this:
quote:
In 1993, some border clashes were reported between China and North Korea.....

In 1996, the 35th anniversary of the Sino-North Korean treaty of friendship saw a Chinese flotilla enter the harbour at Nampo. But setpieces of socialist brotherhood are no longer enough to mean anything significant in ties between the two countries....

The fact that North Korea is an economic basketcase is a major irritant to China...

well, there is more peace in the world if that happens.....but truthfully, the chances of that happenin in todays violence all over the world, that seems unlikely to happen......i suppose it can be good in ways for both nations, but there are many changes that have to happen, n changes take time....lots of time

north korea is a communist country..they are pathetic..they would actually destroy the economic progress of south korea...the only thing they know how to make is nuclear weapons..that's it..im sure more job oppurtunities will be avaiable..but economically...i think it will be corrupted..

Ok, but doesn't China still give North Korea something? Russia used to, but they can't feed or support themselves...so thats why they stopped funding North Korea.

the problem is NK isn't doing anything for China. Therefore, China wouldn't pull out their hair if the two Koreas got together, much less attempt to keep them seperate.

A few things,
First of all the politicians in N.Korea won't give up power until the whole system crashes. They are stuck on power and have NO intentions of giving it up. Next, IF the 2 united it would cause economic turmoil and it would take Korea 1o years for it to recooperate. S.Korea is scared to unite because of that, because they don't have the capital or the resources to bring N.Korea up to speed instantly. I would love to see the 2 united but of course it would come at a price, and a steep one at that, even if it came peacefully or with major tensions.

Think of the good side of things

Korea can exploit minerals that are in North Korea, and production costs would be cheaper because of North Korea's current economic status which makes Korea's products cheaper and more competative... also the wage in North Korea will probably lower than the South so Korea can take advantage of that... that's just the economic side of it...

If the north korean people get away from the old propaganda, that means more nationalism and more people for military for Korea.

but there are the downsides...

NK's poor economy + SK's bad economy = Korea's crappy as hell economy...haha

i heard read.. somewhere that SK's economy is getting a lot better.... but it's still bad right?

i remember back in 2000 i went to korea.. and it was all "tong eehl tong eehl!".. they predicted it would take like 50 years.... sumthing like that.... just hella days....

sure it would be great if the 2 koreas united.... but i think it would cause more problems than good.... i bet if SK was richer it would be easier to have tong eehl.... or if they weren't so damn stupid as to put aside their differences...i'm sorry i don't understand politics

hmm well i seem to have contributed nothing... so i'm ....stop

No, SK's economy is booming like mad right now! (well not mad) It is doing a hella better than the Japanese economy and a growth is still forcasted for the South Korean economy. They payed off their debt to the IMF, and SK got moved up in investment ratings by stock market analysts...SK's economy ever looked any better before...

Like I previously said before... if the two Korea's united...(under south korean government of course), then there would be tremendous investment opportunities in North Korea... more plants to put up, making more jobs at a cheap wage because of the lower standard of living made by the poorer north...
these are the upsides....

downsides are that the S. Korean government has to dish out money to "restore" the north to be equal to the south, massive health care, food, and aid to the north korean people... there are more but i can't think of any at this point...
