there's been a topic like this, so i won't type everything out again, but it is an anime. Look for a thread about pokemon being an anime or not.
Basically waht it comes down to is that the japanese decide if it's anime...since when did american get to endorse their own subjective (very) definition as to whether something is anime or not...it's not even our term. They would know best. And since anime is basically any animated series in japan...DBZ is definitely an anime. It's as simple as that, anything the "underground" diehard otakus say is stupid...why is something not an anime just because they say so? They can't even define it. The subjectivity is what makes this questionable...nothing else. DBZ isn't americanized at all...tell me how. Oh wait, dammit...it's translated. You are right, it is americanized (sarcasm). And yes, perhaps some violence and such was taken out, but that really doesn't make it "americanized." If anything, it is censored anime if you want to go that far, i wouldn't.

yea, i sorta agree with PsychoSnowman with the dbz bein anime cuz it is. some people dont think it is and sm but thats cuz a lotta people know sm and dbz. no matter what those americanos say (if its anime or not) then they're wrong cuz most of them are a bunch of newbies, no offense or anything. cuz online, wow i say cuz a lot, anyways, there's so much new white anime artists just being wannabes and im not referring to everybody but just the people who think so highly of themselves they make me angry trying to be ubersome. but wouldnt akira toriyama be kinda disappointed if he found out that his anime isnt considered anime but every other anime is anime? his styles pretty one of a kind so it still should be anime. and for those of us being db and dbz old fans use to watch it, we shouldnt turn our back on it becuz of what everyone else thinks...i think...

yeah, DBZ is an anime to me. (to the japanese, ALL cartoons are anime, including american.) It is an all time classic, and in most cases the window to japanese anime. americans saw DBZ, went
"kick ass!" got interested in other animes and realized DBZ is actually pretty crappy. It still is anime, just a sort of "intro" anime.
annnnnnnnnd i just realized i only just repeated what psycho snowman said.
i like dbz...

DB/Z/GT, the whole serious is anime to me, but america screwed it up when they dook out some of the stuff. If you want good dragonball z eps. but the dub version on the japanese because it is longer and has more violance

Anime geeks that go around saying, "ooh sailor moon, pokeman, and dbz aren't anime" need to get beat over the head for being jackasses.
