"The single making Avril famous, "Complicated," is a song about someone who changes their looks and personality to impress other people. Yet, in the video, Avril and crew are trashing the mall and causing all kinds of problems. Avril the rebel even smashes her guitar at the end of the video. (What a shame, it was just like new, seeing as how she strums it maybe three times throughout the entire song.) She tries to come off as this too-cool-for-school bitch with an attitude while she whines about someone who's doing the same thing to her. There's a word for that. I believe it's called hypocrisy.

She's a constant contradiction. She skateboards in the video, poses for publicity shots with the board, tells YM magazine that she's good at it...Yet, in an interview with MTV, she discussed how the director of the "Complicated" video wanted her to skate in it. Ms. Tony Hawk protested, "No, dude, I suck!" Make up your mind, Avril.

Moreover, she recently told Elle Girl, "Today, I rejected some gorgeous publicity shots because they just didn't look like me. I won't wear skanky clothes that show off my booty, my belly, or boobs. I have a great body. I could be Britney. I could be better than Britney."

No one could be Britney. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but her popularity and success are mind-blowing. For Avril to arrogantly declare that she could do even better than one of the most successful teen pop artists ever is ludicrous (and a bit too cocky for my liking). And if she's so against posing in slutty clothes, why didn't she throw in some of that bitchy attitude she seems so proud of and refuse to wear the outfits to begin with? The story simply isn't adding up."

"She calls herself a skater punk, categorizes her music as rock and punk, poses in pictures with a skateboard...yet her music is anything but what such fashion would suggest. Being punk does not come from wearing the right thing. However the image is helping her to sell more records because it's what's popular now. One look through any teen magazine will reveal models dressed in clothing just like hers."

"And let's not forget the fake tattoos she wears on her arms. Cause that's like, ya know, sooo totally hardcore. Let me go draw a big skull and crossbones on my arm so that I can be punk too. Please."

hahah this guy is too good

hmm well i used to be into her in summer and that article from that one paragraph i read (haha) is antagonizing her (5th paragraph). She has never called herself a "skater punk" or called her music "rock" or "punk," in fact every single time she talks about it there is a disclaimer. She's always like "people like to call me a skater punk, i'm not trying to pose as anything but if they want to label me as that; let them." I mean there's something like that at every single response to that question, and she categorizes her music as "rock and pop." not punk.

And, the quote about avril skating is basically the only thing she says about skating, she isn't contradicting herself she always says she is bad, and she is.

Ok i'm reading the article now haha, anyway so on the 3rd and 4th paragraph. Who really cares? People are arrogant all the time, that isn't evidence of a contradiction, it's just trying ot antagonize a musical artist for not being all nice. People boast all the time, this is dumb Hahah, "why didn't se throw in some of that bitchy attitude"? That is funny, the person who wrote the article is too indulged in stereotypes to be able to analyze effectively. The story does add up.

on the 6th paragraph, again, who cares? Teenagers in school and the like do that all the time, she is a teenager. Why does she have to be so hardcore? she isn't portraying the image that she wants to be in my opinion. Why doesn't that person draw a big skull and crossbones on their arm? They really would be subsumed in the category of punk, really. The author is amazingly stupid.

Finally on the first paragraph, it's just not working. This isn't hypocrisy. Yes, britney spears does everything she does in videos, and every single video is an autobiography of everyone who's ever made an mv (sarcasm). She strums her guitar three times in teh song? Umm....no she wrote the guitar part for it and you can hear it throughout the song, as well as wrote the song. Producers added in the instrumentals, but not the lyrics and original guitar part i believe. "She tries to come off as this too-cool-for-school bitch with an attitude"? Well....she isn't in school, that would give her some credibility wouldn't it? This article is stupid, they don't know anything and i can't believe i am able to make counterarguments without looking anything up hahah, anyway...she isn't in school, and i've heard some radio interview and read articles where she jokes about being stupid for not being in school and jokes: "stay in school" while laughing at herself. I mean, what is there to be hypocritical about?

The author is dumb, and is just hating/doesn't know what they are talking about. They looked for hypocrisies and still didn't really find them, it was a poor job.
