u.s. makes us buy new tv.s

this is what i learned the other day. bare with me or scroll down to the "what does this all mean" part.

our television sets in america and some other countries around the world use an NTSC format for televisions sets. these tv project 525 interlaced, horizontal lines of information with 29.96 frames per second. the ntsc format uses up to 60 hz of electricity.

Our friends all aorund the world uses the Pal system which projects 625 lines of interlaced horizontal lines (better) but with 25 fps and uses 50 hz of electricity.

why the different formats? one of the reasons is because how much electricity we use on our televisions sets . i forget the other reasons

THEN there is hdtv. new technology which im sure everybody heard of which no one really knows about. these tv can project up to 725(panasonic) lines of PROGRESSIVE or inter-laced lines with either 30, 29.96, 25 or 24(film)frames per second and sony will offer a 1025 lines of interlaced and progressive television. of course this looks a lot better than our standard ntsc or pal. the "hdtv ready" options are already installed on some hi end television sets but the only problem is the television stations must offer an hdtv show. some shows do.. some do not.

WHAT does THIS ALL MEAN. in 2005 the bigger television stations (ABC, NBC, blah blah blah) will offer both progressive hdtv and ntsc frequencys for most , if not , all of their shows. that means for all of you hdtv ready people.. you can see almost every show in a higher quality. yay. BUT
in 2007.. the ntsc format will expire and every station MUST use an hdtv frequency. which means ALL the stations will be in hdtv. which also means all the televisions without the hdtv technology are virtually useless. the small televisions stations can either switch to hdtv or sell their frequency. some stations are already planning their future for this date.

hdtv is expensive as hell but im glad we're updating our old format. hdtv will be superior over any other format and will look ten times better than ntsc or pal.

have any other stupid questions regarding t.v. film , technical or non=technical? ask me. i'm learning what makes a vcr tick.. ugh stupid school.

yeah, i saw this impending revolution coming. I'm excited for it. But, they aren't relaly making us all buy them, all the companies are just collectively switching over. It's not some conspiracy, even though you didn't say that (not that i'd know cause i didn't read anything except skimming the last part). I'll read it later and respond better later. Interesting stuff.

Invest $200 properly now and you'll have enough money by the time it's required. At least they're giving us the heads up.
