Damn Mud Flaps

well.my front mud flaps seem like they're super long. because when I go over some bumps in the road they scrape along the ground. are there any real advantages to keeping them on other than keeping the car a lil cleaner? and in the fall when I'm cleaning it out before winter there's always like leaves stuck between the inside of the fender and the mud flaps..should I jsut take them off?

I also heard that they induce rust too..is that true?

it all depends on how well u maintanence them...they can induce rusting if u dont dry them well after ur car gets wet...nowadays paint and clear coat is pretty rust resistant so it doesnt matter on newer cars...mud flaps also guard against rocks and pebble hittin duh side of ur car as well as mud...u can go ahead witout them i dont think it'll matter much as long as u drive on gravel roads...i have the same problem wit my mudflaps but sum places i go i need them...
