Exclamation I'm glad yet shocked....

Asian Americans also continued to lead the rest of the population in educational qualification. Nearly 44% of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have a Bachelors Degree or more compared to 25.6% for the national average, 28% for White non-Hispanics and just 13.8% for others. And over 85% Asian Americans have a high school degree. But discrepancies exist within the Asian American community itself. For example, while over 57% of Indian Americans have a Bachelors Degree or more, only 5% of Hmongs do.

Better education seems to have reflected in better jobs for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Nearly 40% of them are employed in managerial and specialty professions while it is 33.2% for White non-Hispanics and 18.2% for others.

its a stereotype. everyone knows asians for excelling in school. if you dont well, your considered different. its our job to pretty much live up to this reputation. it might not be the greatest one but hey, its alot better than being known for something stupid.

the majority of asians i know all go/went to decent schools. and, the majority of them all have decent paying jobs.

Mao Zedong? (Not quite sure about the spelling on that one)

What about Mohandas Ghandi, he is pretty famous.

Does anyone else feel that due to parents pushing thier children so hard will there is a possibility that the children will not push as hard on thier offspring? This may cause the steriotype to be hindered, and the Asian population would suffer from the handicaps implimented into colleges from a previous generation to balance the racial diversity as someone pointed out in the jobs thread. They may not remove this factor as the steriotype is only hindered and not broken.

Then again, it may not happen.

hmmm i kno thas troo.. theres like a competition to see whos smartest asian in school.. asians are all topped in our school.. tha highest nonasian is like 12th fer highest gpa..

Posted by TyGer STyLe on 10-24-2002 02:48 AM:

huh figures... the fact is... asian's are pushed harder... its cuz since we are immigrants, and our culture has a particular emphesis on education, our parents push us that much harder... parent's think that since we have immigrated we MUST succeed in education in order to make something out of ourselves... so im not surprised by those statisics...
