North Korea warns of 'horrifying disasters'

PYONGYANG, North Korea (CNN) -- North Korea warned Sunday that if the United States ignites a war on the Korean peninsula, the world "will suffer horrifying nuclear disasters," according to a newspaper article released by Pyongyang's Korean Central News Agency.

The article in Rodong Sinmun also said the U.S. is "pushing ahead with nuclear war preparations in full swing on the Korean peninsula," according to the news agency.

North Korea has issued several warnings through its government-controlled media in recent weeks that the United States is preparing to launch a large-scale attack on the peninsula.

The United States denies it has any plans to attack North Korea, consistently saying it is seeking a diplomatic and political solution to the increasing tensions sparked by Pyongyang's decision to reactivate its nuclear program.

This week, U.S. officials announced that North Korea reactivated its five-megawatt nuclear reactor at Yongbyon, a move that would produce enough plutonium as a byproduct of electricity generation to make a nuclear weapon in about a year.

Referring to U.S.-South Korean joint military exercises scheduled to begin March 4, North Korea says the actions are "in accordance with the second Korean war," according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The newspaper article, as quoted by KCNA, also said U.S. Central Intelligence Agency operatives staged a "secret drill" in preparation for a surprise attack on the Yongbyon facility in order to destroy it.

If that happens, it "presupposes a nuclear war," the article says.

"If the U.S. imperialists ignite a war on the Korean peninsula, the war will turn into a nuclear war," the article says.

"As a consequence, the Koreans in the North and South and the people in Asia and the rest of the world will suffer horrifying nuclear disasters.

"If the U.S. war hawks unleash another Korean war of aggression, the army and people of the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] will mercilessly wipe out the aggressors."

What are you opinions about this?

NK are a bunch of pussies, if they were going to follow through, they would of done it years ago.

i guess what i'm most afraid of is for my family members that are in korea living in seoul. If NK were to attack they would most likely send their missiles to SK's capital. Maybe Ajy2k is right. If they were really serious about a nuclear war they would've started a long time ago. The major concern now is that they'll start to sell their weapons to terrorists to boost their economy..

The point wasn't whether they'd use it, it was that one is more than enough for any nation to have.

I don't know enough about NK to make a decision on whether or not i'd think they'd make the first move. But really, they aren't just bombing someone out of the blue. They've threatened all ready, and if the US comes in, then they will have some sort of justification to unleash nuclear power. Not that that's that (haha 3 that's in a row) big of a difference, but it is different...they aren't making the first move, they are making a reactionary move to something they've all ready threatened. Though, not that different in the sense of it being a first move in nuclearizing.

Are you talking about nuclear missiles? I don't think they would nuke South Korea but they might use conventional missiles.

Either way I don't like this situation, it seems like we're back in a cold war with a shooting war going on at the same time. That metaphorical sword hanging over our heads is back.
