a head crash happens when the reader physically crashed into the harddrive's magnetic disks, physically damaging the harddrive with scratches, rendering it totally useless. youll need very expensive computer equipment, software, and spare harddrive parts to recover such a harddrive. so no, comsumer companies like compusa dont offer data recover services since the initial costs would be too great, and the benefit too small, for them to even consider it. but there are several companies (ie ontrack) that specialize in data recovery.

...and thanks for those who were willing to help out. but id have to decline. im planning to keep the harddrive in a safe place until i get some money of my own and then get it recovered. it might take years but it would be worth the wait. so i dont consider all my data permanently lost... just currently inaccessible.

bah. thats still bad.

lol, i feel that. my dorm bathrooms were really nasty. people used to throw up in the sinks on the weekends cuz they were too drunk to make it to the toilet, and weekends there's no janitors, so it would just sit there for a couple of days and stink up the whole place. and sometimes people shit in the showers too, wtf is up that. dumbasses...
